Common carp are the most widely distributed species and are known for their gold or bronze scales. Mirror carp have fewer scales and are much larger than common carp, with a more rounded body shape. Leather carp have even fewer scales, giving them a leathery appearance, and koi carp are domesticated carp that are bred for their bright colors and unique patterns.
